Short-handed Auburn can't match Batavia

ROCKFORD - Auburn's Haniefe Johnson scored a MLK Showcase-high 26 points in the final game of the night, but he got little help offensively as the Knights fell to Batavia, 49-46.

Auburn played the game without its second and third leading scorers. After Johnson, the Knights' next leading scorer was Mar'Quall Smith with six points.

Still, Auburn's defense kept them in it throughout. The game was tied at 22 at halftime and at 33 in the third quarter before Batavia got some breathing room. Jayden Johnson led Batavia, which went 3-1 over the Showcase, with 16 points and Ethan Ivan had 12.
