Toledo team opens some eyes with win over Boylan

ROCKFORD - Toledo Rogers, the lone out of state team in this year's J-Hawk MLK Showcase, pulled away late to beat Boylan, 70-55.

Rogers improved to 6-3 on the season. Ohio has much more restrictive schedule rules than Illinois so little was known about them. The balanced Rams had four players in double-figures. Christian Smith led the way with 16 points, Dru Pettigrew scored 13 and T.Q. Belcher and Ahmad Smith had 12 each.

The game was tied at 37 at halftime and Rogers led by five entering the fourth. Smith though scored nine of his 12 points in the fourth quarter as the Rams pulled away.

Boylan struggled with finding enough firepower. Kevin Diemer led the Titans with 22 points and Zach Couper, who will play for the Air Force Academy in college, had 14. Couper though only had five in the second half.
